The Solution


The Health Care Providers Group Insurance Plan (HCP) is a unique program of true group benefits specifically designed for part-time, casual, temporary and contract hospital employees and hospital retirees. Launched in 1997, the plan has now grown to include over 145 hospital sites.


Because of the uniqueness of the HCP plan, it is administered entirely by the HCP team, so all we ask is that Human Resources share the availability of the program to eligible employees. There is no cost to the hospital to endorse HCP, as the program is fully paid by the employee.


While employees at any hospital may join the plan, employees of endorsing hospitals receive a more robust level of coverage, guaranteed.

  • What does it mean to be an endorsing hospital?

    Becoming an endorsing hospital gives you the opportunity to offer a 60-day open window to your employees.


    A 60-day open window offers better guaranteed coverage reserved for endorsing hospital groups.


    60 day open windows are offered the first 60 days within the inital implementation period, 60 days from date of hire for new employees, 60 days from loss of existing coverage (through spouse, at retirement, attainment of term age for full time benefits or transfer from full-time employment).


    Support from a team of service professionals, there to assist you and your employees at any time.


    Option for our team to attend wellness events, employee fairs, information sessions or other special occasions at your hospital.


    Availability of a wide variety of marketing and promotional material to help support you in your endeavour to communicate the plan to your employees.


    Opportunity for special open window enrollments at milestone anniversaries from endorsement date (5, 10, 15, 20, 25 years, etc.).

  • What is required of our team should we endorse HCP?

    Your endorsement begins with a 60-day initial implementation, during which any eligible employees will be extended our Complete or Complete Plus health coverage and the core Life, Long-term Disability and Accidental Death, Disease & Dismemberment depending on the employees age, hours worked and employment status.


    Additionally, any eligible new hires, employees who will lose their benefits (ie. switching from full-time to part-time) or future retirees will be offered their own individual 60-day open window so that they can benefit from your endorsement too.


    What we ask of your team is active and ongoing support in communicating the availability of the plan to your employees at the time which they become eligible for our plan. We will provide all plan information, marketing materials and messaging to distribute to prospective employees and then we take it from there.

  • Is there any added cost to the hospital?

    No! Monthly premiums are the responsibility of the plan member (employee/retiree).

  • What employees are eligible for the HCP product?

    Eligible employees are part-time, casual, temporary and/or contract employees not receiving benefits as part of their compensation. Employees who are retiring or losing benefits are also eligible to receive coverage through HCP.


    Employees must be actively at work and retirees must have retired from active employment (not on any type of leave like a disability).

  • How does HCP differ from any other individual health and dental plan?

    Individual group plans have slightly different rules, and although HCP is offered on a voluntary basis like an individual plan, we function like a true group benefits program. This allows us to offer valuable income protection to eligible employees which aren’t typically included in standard individual plans.
